The Fly Rod Shop and Fly Fish Vermont is Northern Vermont's Finest Fly Fishing Guide and Instructional Service, for beginners to experts. We have been providing fantastic guiding trips in Vermont since 1986, all over the beautiful state of Vermont, as well the Northeast and Caribbean. Want to experience something unique while on your Vermont Vacation. We offer an experience that is fulfilling because our Vermont guides are great fly fishers, AND great instructors. We offer river or stream instructional tours for all levels and our drift boat trips go down some of Vermont's most pristine waters. Whether you want to fish for rainbow,brown or brook trout,or try your hand at a landlock salmon,small mouth bass or northern pike we can fit your needs. Our Vermont guiding and instructional tours in and around Stowe Vermont are a unique experiences because of the privacy. All through Vermont, and especially our trips, are accessible but secluded in Vermonts waterways, so you'll get unpressured casts all day long.

Bob Shannon, the head guide, has been teaching and guiding in the area since 1986.He has been teaching a class at Johnson State College in Johnson Vermont on fly fishing for the past 11 years, and has consistently been featured in the press for excellence in fly fishing and guiding. He is also a member of Vermont's Fish & Wildlife Board that helps the Fish & Wildlife Department with decisions regarding Vermont's fishing and wildlife management.




Josh Adams, born with a fishing rod in his hands was raised in the foothills & mountains of western Maine. He attended Johnson State College and was a student of Bob's who excelled in every aspect of fishing. His passion for the outdoors and his educational background makes Josh a great guide and instructor. Now into his 9th year guiding for Bob, he knows all of Vermont's great Fly Fishing spots.










Karen Guile, originally from the Northest Kingdom of Vermont, learned how to fish with her grandfather on Maidstone Lake. She helps teach our One Day Fly Fishing Schools, Casting Clinic's, Junior Fishing Program and has recently started the "Fly Girls Of Stowe" Fishing Club. She also runs the retail store, the website and is actively involved with Vermont's & New Hampshire's Casting for Recovery Program.








Jim Smith, also attended Johnson State College and has been guiding for the Fly Rod Shop for 10 years.







What to Wear on your Guided Fishing Trip!

All our guided trips include rod, reel, waders & wading boots but we do recommend that you wear weather dependent clothing, (raincoat, fleece jacket, long pants or shorts). We would like to have you wear socks for inside the waders, also bring bug spray, sunblock, a camara, hat and polarized sunglasses. If you don't have these items, we do sell all the gear you need for your trip in our Retail Store.
