Things have slowly picked up for the anglers around Vermont. We’ve had good reports coming into the shop over the past couple of days with fish being landed. Not a ton of fish, but this time of the year a fish is a fish. Fishing on some of the Champlain Tribs on both the VT and NY have been fishing well for steelhead. The Winooski river from the Route 2 bridge East of Waterbury downstream has produced some wild and holdover trout as well. With low flows for this time of the year we’re running into more fishing opportunities than most years. The temps are still cool, lingering in the upper 30’s to low 40’s but not much else is expected for this time of the year. The steelhead fishing is starting to pick up on the Salmon River in NY. Fish have been caught on beads, egg flies, worm patterns and wooly buggers. We’ll be heading over there in just over a week to start our guiding season. Good luck to the anglers getting a jump on the season and be sure to wade safe! The water is still cold.d
