We finally got some much needed rain. Some of the smaller tribs were really starting to get low. Everything puffed up a bit with the rain we got yesterday and today. There is still more rain in the forecast for the next week so it isn’t over yet. With higher, muddier water fish will be keying in on streamers with lots of movement. Once the smaller stuff clears up you’ll be able to get fish on both dries and nymphs but for a lot of the tribs it may be another day until we see those kinds of levels and clarity. I got out this morning on a Winooski Trib before work and managed to catch one decent brown on a big streamer in stained water. He came out of a deeper pool and easily chased the fly 20 feet before smashing it right at my feet. For those of you getting out over the next few days be sure to have a little bit of everything in your box. Streamers, Nymphs and Dry flies may all produce fish over the next couple of days. The fish pictured is one I caught this morning on a Winooski Trip. He ate a big articulated sculpin tied with a Fish Skull Sculpin Helmet, Marabou, Schlapen, Craft fur and some crystal chenille.
