Water temps are still on the rise, if you hit the larger rivers right at first light you may find fishable temps but after mid-morning they will get a bit too warm in most places. We could really use some substantial rain too, lots of the rivers are running very low for this time of the year. Having said that, you can still go out and catch plenty of fish! We’ve been seeing good Caddis hatches between 12-14s in olive and brown. In lots of places the fish have been responding to these fish well. We are in for a bit of rain tonight which will hopefully cool things down a bit. After tomorrow it looks like the night time temps are going to cool down into the low 50’s and although the day time temps will be around 80, the water will cool down at night with the cooler temps which will be good for the fish. The bass fishing has remained pretty good as well as the pike fishing. Frank had a repeat pike trip out yesterday and they did well sight fishing to them. Sounds like they had an awesome time out on the water. As far as flies go, the same things will be working over the next few days, one really fun way to catch fish in water conditions like these are to swing soft hackle wet flies in the upper water column, generally in fast water. This can be a really effective way at getting into fish when other techniques fall short. A #16 Pheasant Tail Soft Hackle is a perfect fly for this! We’re now running our summer hours so we are now open Sunday-Thursday 8am-6pm and Friday and Saturday 8am-8pm.
