We’ve been getting plenty of fish over the past few days. Some of the larger streams have fished well in the mornings and have cooled off a bit. Everything is super low right now, luckily we’re in for 1.5″ of rain tomorrow with more rain on Monday and Tuesday. I’d expect to see the Winooski fishable by probably the end of the week if we get the amount of rain we’re forecasted to. The Lamoille will clear up a bit quicker and will be at a great flow. Perfect for out new Outcast Pac 1400s! We’ve got some drift trips at the end of next week and things should be awesome! I was out on a small mountain stream this morning and caught tons of fish. The majority of them were baby rainbow trout, that stream has seemed to have been taken over by these juvenile fish. I got probably 2 dozen rainbows and maybe half a dozen brook trout. Four or five years ago in that stream it would have been nothing but rookies. The hot flies were pretty much any dry fly that would float in a #14 or smaller. With the extreme low water, the fish were definitely a bit on the spooky side. That will all change tomorrow once the water levels come up. For the anglers getting out over the next few days, expect to fish lots sub surface flies. With the higher off-colored water fish will no be as likely to come up after a dry fly. Patterns with movement and a little flash tend to work very well. Good luck to everyone getting out there this weekend, enjoy it!
