River Conditions: 7/18/16

Water Clarity: Water Temperatures:  59-70

Hatches: Sallies, Sulphurs, Light Cahils, Hoppers, Caddis Flies

Suggested Patterns: Iron Sally, Hotwire Caddis, Hare Copper, Copper Johns-Chart, Pheasant Tails, Taylor’s Gut Instinct, Caddis Poopah, More or Less Hopper, VW Hopper, Dave’s Hopper, Elk Hair Caddis, Light Cahils, Stimulators, Black Ants, Bionic Ants, Jake’s Gulp Beetle, Muddlers, Wooly Buggers, Zonkers.

Things have still remained pretty consistent over the past few days, low and warm water conditions have kept us up high in the mountains seeking out cooler water. Brook trout in the small streams are going to be the best bet over the next few days although tomorrow night and the following night are going to be considerably cooler so we might get an opportunity to hit some larger streams if things do cool down. As we’ve mentioned before, the Little River coming out of the waterbury reservoir is a good option as well if you’re looking to get after some bigger water and bigger fish. That water stays very cool and does hold some very nice fish. The fishing there can be a bit more inconsistent than other streams from what we have found but don’t let that discourage you. Nymphing and dry fly fishing can be very productive. Black ants in an #18 tend to work very well on that stretch of the river. (Hint Hint) We just got some rain here in Stowe and although it did pour it was pretty brief and probably did very little to the streams. I’m sure nearby areas may have gotten pounded so don’t be surprised if your secret honey hole is blown out this evening or tomorrow morning. Good luck out there!!
