Both the Winooski and Lamoille river have been pounded with rain. The Winooski in Plainfield took it very hard and ended up flooding parts of the town. The Lamoille didn’t receive as much rain but still is in fairly rough shape. These two larger rivers are going to take a bit of time to clear up, at the earliest, they may be fishable by Friday but that is provided we don’t get any more rain. The majority of the smaller tribs are going to be in good shape as they tend to clear up quicker. The brook trout are all going to be quite happy with some cooler water moving through. The Dog river managed to remain relatively untouched from most of the rain, it did come up a bit has already receded and if you’re willing to get up early to fish Hoppers and ants it could payoff with a brute. The Mad River would be another good option if you’re looking to fish something a bit on the larger side as that too did not get hit very hard. Hoppers and ants would be a good choice there and again, if you’re in the right spot it could payoff big. This year we’ve heard of a fair amount of 18 plus inch fish being pulled out of the mad this year. Check out this big Brown caught by Matthew on a recent guide trip!
