Fishing has remained pretty good although some rivers are getting toasty. That should change with the cooler weather we’re going to see over the next few days and the rain we are supposed to get. We have been doing well on dries, a combo of hoppers and smaller stimulators, cahils and other similar patterns. We’ve been seeing some more Tricos out and about locally and we should continue to see them as we get into the beginning of August as well. The brook trout streams could definitely use some more water in them, the fish are getting pretty spooky in a lot of them with lower flows. Some of the mid sized tribs could use some more water as well. Over the past few days when fishing smaller bugs on the mid sized stuff I noticed a difference from dropping down to 6x and got more fish on the lighter tippet. When fishing the larger more gaudy hopper patterns that generally isn’t necessary and will end up just twisting your leader in the worst way. The Winooski this morning was 64 degrees in Middlesex but by noonish had warmed up to right around 70. Luckily Andrew’s trip was getting off the water as the water neared 70. The Lamoille was in similar shape, cool with he cooler air temps last night but warming up quick. With day temps in the low 60’s and rain it should be awesome out there. If we get enough rain it might be time for some muddy water browns! If that’s the case the bigger rivers will blow out but that won’t be the end of the world. Better than drying up! Good luck if you get out over the next few days!!
