It’s been pretty consistent out there over the past few days. Lower water flows and warmer weather has kept everyone on the smaller streams. Lots of brookies! Everyonce in a while you’ll come across some larger fish in those streams as well which can be exciting! River bass fishing is another good alternative, the lower Lamoille and Winooski can fish very well for bass and monster fall fish when the water is too hot for trout. Tricos have continued to hatch on a few streams around, not sure if they’ve started on the dog river yet but if not it should be anytime. Hoppers, Beetles and Ants have taken a good share of the fish over the past week or so. Nymphs have also produced some fish and some of the bigger fish we’ve gotten into have been on nymph patterns underneath dries. Sometimes the bigger fish in skinny water just won’t come up to take dry flies so having a pheasant tail or other nymph as a dropper. Water temps on the smaller streams are between 58 and 64 depending on the particular stream. Bigger rivers have been in the upper 60’s in the am and warming up into the 70s by the evening.
