We finally got the rain we needed! Water levels came up significantly the other day on a lot of the streams around. The Winooski still is not fishable but may be good by the end of tomorrow or Saturday morning provided we don’t get anymore significant rainfall which may or may not happen. All of the small streams around are in great shape though. The push of water brought a much needed increase in the flows. After a increase in water level a lot of the small brookie streams fish as though they’ve just been stocked. Tons of fish very willing to take flies. The rain seems to rejuvenate these small streams as very few of them are stocked and those that are are stocked in late April-May. With the cooler weather we’ve been having browns may start showing up in lower sections of tribs off the Lamoille and Winooski and may be very aggressive to some bigger streamers. A combination of cold high water is often the “perfect storm” for big fish to be out on the prowl. Not too much has changed bug wise over the past few days, did see a big flying ant hatch on Monday around Montpellier but the Winooski seemed to be just high and dirty enough that the fish weren’t keying in on them unfortunately. Getting excited for the 3rd Annual Vermont Fly Fishing Show which is this coming Saturday the 9th! Looks like we’ll have some showers during the day but that won’t dampen our spirits! Free Beer and Food, lots of sales going on as well as getting your hands on some of the new rods for 2018 and lots of other cool stuff! Hopefully we’ll see you there! Good luck fishing!!
