We could really use some rain right now!!! The water temps are at least much better than they had been. Yesterday mid morning the Winooski was 56 in Bolton! It did warm up as the day progressed but nothing too crazy. The fishing has been best mid-late morning throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Been seeing a variety of bugs come off in the afternoon from Cahils, Isos, BWOs, Caddis and a few others. The fish have been feeding on the surface more consistently after 2ish but been seeing some feed on dries sporadically throughout the rest of the day. There were some Tan Caddis flies hatching around 11 yesterday morning on the Winooski as well. It looks like we’re going to see some rain towards the end of this week and into mid next week which will be huge. Not sure if the rivers even got this low last year. It might also spread some fish out on some of the migratory run rivers around too. They are stacked up in only a few pools right now as the water is sooooo low. The fishing should be good throughout the week. Get out after work for a few hours. Good time of the year to have a nymph rod and a dry fly rod rigged up. You never know what you’re gonna find to be most productive right now. Also, make sure to have some lighter tippet. With the water being so low right now the fish have definitely been more spooky and the lighter tippet has seemed to make a difference.
