The fishing has continued to be awesome but man could we use some rain. Everything is running rather low for this time of the year and things are starting to warm up quick. Be sure to keep a thermometer with you over the next week while we are in this hot spell. A lot of the rivers will start to warm up and may reach 70 degrees during the warmest part of the day which isn’t a good thing for trout. Unless you’re specifically targeting trout to harvest fishing for them in water that warm can kill fish. Having said that, a lot of streams will still be cool enough to fish. We’ve been seeing some huge Caddis hatches and fish are keying in on them. We’ve been catching tons of fish on our trips over the past few days, both floating and Wading. Trips have been doing the best on subsurface flies including both nymphs and streamers. We’ve been on both the Lamoille and Winooski over the past few days. The Winooski yesterday at 1 oclock was running at 62 degrees which was perfect temp to fish. But today was at 65 .The Lamoille is probably in similar shape right now as well. Over the next few days, if you’re going to get out on the larger streams be sure to get out there early. The smaller tribs will all be fishing well but the water levels are going to be low. Be careful when fishing the smaller waters, wear muted colors that blend in with your surroundings and like we’ve said before, be sure to fish upstream. Fish will be actively feeding on nymphs and streamers along with dry flies in the right situation. Good luck to any anglers getting out there this weekend!
