The fishing has been pretty good since things cooled down on Saturday. Water temps on the Lamoille and Winooski are right around 60 for the time being. Been seeing sporadic hatches throughout the day of Caddis, both tan and olive, PMDs Sulfurs and a variety of other bugs. Some pools will have fish feeding on top, others we’ve found have not and we’ve had to nymph them. The extended forecast looks pretty good from a fishing standpoint as well, relatively cool during the day and 40s at night. On the cloudier days you should have shots at fish on dries all day, sunnier days you may have to nymph mid day to get them. Been starting to see more fish moving into the quicker pockety water on the larger rivers, but still getting fish in the slower stuff as well. Fish it all, you’ll probably notice a pattern relatively quickly as to where more of the fish are holding and/or feeding. The brook trout fishing has also been great on the warmer days, on the cooler days they’ve been a little sluggish and less willing to take dries but that would likely be due to cooler water temps on those days. We saw some brook trout streams earlier this week that were right around 50 still. A little too cold for them to come up and crush dries!.

The Lamoille has been fishing great from Johnson all the way up into Hardwick. Plenty of stocked and Wild fish throughout that section of river, we talked to a few guys that have been seeing some Brown Drakes starting to hatch up there as well. Always a sweet hatch to fish if the rivers are fishable when they come off! As far as the Winooski goes, the entire rivers been fishing pretty well, really from the Jonesville Bridge all the way up to the headwaters has been providing us with plenty of action. Been seeing some really nice Wild fish along with plenty of stockies. The fishing should be great over the next few days! Go get out there even if it’s just for a couple hours after work!
