Things have been pretty good over the past few days. The cooler nights have really saved us over the past few days. Water temps in the morning on the Lamoille have been pretty good. The Winooski has been a bit warmer. It doesn’t look like we’re going to get much rain any time soon so finding good trout water may become a bit challenging aside from right at first light and brook trout streams. And as the next few days play out, early morning fishing may be out of the question as the night temps don’t cool off as much. The flying ants may pop out any day now so be sure to have a couple of them in your box for when it happens. The Trico hatch has been in full swing as well. One thing many anglers do is fish the hatch early in the morning then wrap up around 6:30-7:30am or go fish somewhere else. Often the spinner fall which is often between 7:30 and 9am can be more productive than the actual hatch itself so if you’re fishing a trico hatch be sure to stick around until 9am. The Bass fishing has continued to be good on some of the smaller bodies of water nearby. Largemouth bass are always a great target species to target when river temps get too high. Big deer hair and cork poppers fished in the lilly pads is tough to beat during the hot days of summer. There’s nothing like having a 5lber nose up and suck down a 4″ topwater fly. Good luck to the anglers getting out over the next few days!
