More rain! Just what we didn’t need. The big rivers came back up last night with the rain we got which we didn’t need. Earlier this week we were able to get onto the Winooski and Lamoille and had great success. Water temps were in the low 60s even in the afternoon and the fish were everywhere we expected them to be. The stockies even in the main rivers look great! We weren’t sure what to expect but it seems like the majority of them made it through the flood. We had several other reports of people fishing both rivers having tons of success. This is a great sign for the fall! Unfortunately both the Lamoille and Winooski have since come back up and are no longer fishable. It was a great few hours though!
Since the higher water, we’ve been spending more time on the smaller to mid sized tribs. The fishing has continued to be pretty productive. Sam and I this morning went and hit a mid sized Lamoille trib and Sam was able to land a gorgeous 18-20″ wild brown on a hopper. We ended up covering a ton of water and only ran into a few other fish which isn’t out of the ordinary for that particular trib.
Just remember that the fishing is in fact good! We’re still having lots of anglers ask us if there’s any fish left, or if the streams might recover by next year. They are great! Go fish them, we’ve yet to run into a single stream that seems to have been impacted from a fish numbers standpoint. We’re not electroshocking the streams so our numbers may not be accurate. Best way to find out is to go fish!
