More rain! Enough is enough… The mid sized tribs and bigger rivers are all shot, Steph was able to get on the lamoille for a day earlier this week and the fishing was incredible! If the water ever drops we’ll have a great fall on the bigger rivers! Most of our efforts recently have been on the smaller streams which have continued to fish very well. Some of the brook trout are really starting to color up too which is always a great reminder fall is right around the corner!
For anglers getting out this weekend, have a few plans. Some of the tribs off the Winooski and Lamoille may be perfect, some may be too high. Rivers like the Gihon, North Branch, Mad and Dog often clear up pretty quick but it’s hard to say at this point what they’ll look like. We have some more rain in the forecast but it doesn’t look like it’ll be anything too significant. If those bodies of water are too high to fish, go brook trout fishing! There will be plenty of hungry brook trout waiting for your fly in just about every stream in central VT. We’ve still been able to primarily catch them on dries lately which makes it was more fun! If you’re fishing a brook that’s way higher than normal and coming up empty handed with dries throw a small streamer instead!
