A little more rain than what we had hoped for over the past week. Prior to the heavy rain things had been good, small to mid sized tribs were in great shape last week before the skies opened up. Lots of healthy looking brookies, and some nice fish out of the mid sized bodies of water. Since Thursday, we’ve been fairly limited on where we’ve been able to fish. A few outings on some of the smaller brookie streams but we’ve switched gears and have been focusing on the lakes and ponds. The bass fishing has been solid, smallies are in the post spawn feeding mode right now. With the lake levels coming up, we’ve found some nice fish in really shallow water. Likely hunting all of the things that got flooded out of their homes-worms, frogs etc… Always seems like the big fish will cruise in the shallow, flooded spots when the lake levels come up. A great time to get em with a fly rod! The Hex hatch is starting to pick up on some of the local lakes, the next few weeks should be productive if you can get out on your local lake or pond! Don’t be afraid to stay well past sunset, some of the best fishing during a hex hatch is once the sun goes down.

For the wade anglers looking to get out this week things will be a little funky. Most brook trout streams should be fishable, we are forecasted to get more rain, but it looks to be far less substantial than what we got over the past few days. The Dog would be worth checking out as well, that seems to have missed most of the real heavy rainfall. Assuming now more heavy rainfall, the Mad, Gihon, North Branch and other similar sized tribs should be good to go by tomorrow, or perhaps Wednesday. The main Winooski and Lamoille will probably be out of the game for another few days. Be sure to have a good mix of flies, streamers, larger gaudy nymph patterns and some dries!’

Good luck out there!
